The project “Gaza Concrete” stands at the intersection of concrete and nature, where strength appears as a temporary condition, while fragility remains beneath the surface. The project comes from a personal experience of memory and loss, transforming concrete from a building material into a witness to time and to what remains of life after collapse. Here, concrete becomes a dual presence, holding both strength and cracks, while the element enclosed within it becomes a representation of life and construction.
First Series: Dear Gaza… I Love You — This series comes from a photographic archive I created in Gaza between 2005 and 2023. It captures everyday life in the streets, refugee camps, alleys, and by the sea, away from direct documentation of war. Each image holds traces of people, homes, and nature, and of the beauty of life living alongside loss.
After my studio was destroyed and my works and archive were reduced to rubble, the photographs that survived became like living beings, breathing on our behalf. They became an archive resisting forgetting, witnessing that life was once here.
In this series, light becomes a way of capturing a passing moment and preserving it for history and future generations. The image becomes a space for love, pain, freedom, dreams, hope, loss, and siege. “Dear Gaza… I Love You” is an acknowledgement that an image can be an act of survival, and that art can become a home, a memory, and an act of resistance.
