Love in the Time of Corona

COVID-19

“They lived together long enough to know that love means loving at any time and anywhere, and that love becomes more urgent the closer it gets to death.” — Gabriel García Márquez, Love in the Time of Cholera

The difficult time we experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic brought fear, isolation, uncertainty, and anxiety into the most intimate spaces of our lives. Yet, within this atmosphere of distance and vulnerability, another force emerged: love.

Love took on new forms and found new ways of expressing itself. Physical distance did not necessarily mean emotional distance. Instead, it pushed people to search for alternative ways to remain connected — to touch without touching, to be present while being apart, and to maintain relationships through screens, messages, images, gestures, and acts of care.

The pandemic created a strange contemporary landscape where absence became part of intimacy and waiting became part of everyday life. Behind closed doors, across borders, through windows and digital screens, countless stories of love were taking place — stories that were intimate, fragile, unexpected, and often invisible. This project searches for those stories.

It looks at love not as a single emotion or romantic ideal, but as a human response to isolation, uncertainty, and the possibility of loss. Perhaps, in times of crisis, love does not disappear.
